My son is at the age where he has introduced Spider-Man into my own universe. And so, I am getting acquainted with other superheroes who save humanity. I understand the need to create heroes as a projection screen for daydreams, the desire to identify with them, or the inclination toward the safety offered by "supernatural" protection. At the same time, I find that exaggerated, heroic form of masculinity a bit ridiculous.
