Predestination / 2020

/tattooed embryos, resin, silicone, metal, glass, plywood, 41x51x10 cm/

The object of predestination is a reflection on the given circumstances into which children are unconditionally born at present and which are almost inscribed in their skin. Each of the four embryos has a set of symbols tattooed on their bodies mapping themes that they simply cannot avoid and that create life boundaries for them. The first issue concerns the environment, the state of air, water and soil pollution, including the misuse of chemicals in agriculture, the extinction of animal species, deforestation, warming, melting glaciers, etc. Another topic is various political upheavals, wars, terrorist attacks, racially and religiously based intolerance, and the associated humanitarian catastrophes, famines and massive migrations. The third area concerns the threats associated with China as a politically and economically growing superpower that will increasingly determine events at the global level and whose political system is not democratic, does not respect basic human rights and develops a sophisticated repressive system of human control. The last embryo is tattooed with symbols covering various human rights topics such as freedom of speech, religion, gender and minority equality, racial equality.
